This is my mom-in-law’s recipe. I am sure she will be happy to see her preparation posted.
This is a simple yet very tasty dal preparation.
½ cup chana dal
½ medium onion sliced
1 tsp coriander powder
½ tsp garam masala
½ tsp fennel powder
½ tsp turmeric
½ tsp mustard seeds
Few curry leaves
2 tbsp oil
Soak chana dal in water for few hours.
Add chana dal and enough water to cover the dal and pressure cook for 1 whistle or cook in a saucepan. Don’t let it get mushy.
Heat oil and add mustard seeds. When they splutter, add onions and saute till they are almost brown.
Add all the dry powders and curry leaves and saute for few minutes.
Add cooked chana dal along with the water. Adjust salt.
Serve with chapathis.
